When Count Dooku resigned from the Jedi order, everyone was shocked. Dooku was a strong willed individual whose ideas were often not in line with the Jedi Council. His extreme views were often displayed by his former Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, who would also defy the Council on occassion.
After his departure, he disappeared for many years only to return as a political activist pushing for rebellion in the galaxy. In a short period of time, Dooku gathered thousands of systems on his side and eventually built the Separatist movement that nearly split the Republic.
Eventually, Dooku was seduced by the dark side through Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith. Eventually taking the name of Darth Tyranus, Dooku had added reprehensible actions of deceit and treachery to his past and future.
