A massive, fur covered beast of great strength, Chewbacca the Wookiee was a well-known figure in both the underworld and in the Rebel Alliance. Chewbacca was born on the planet Kashyyyk well over two centuries before the Battle of Yavin. Throughout the Star Wars movies, Chewbacca was portrayed as a very smart and exceptionally skilled individual in starship repair and piloting.
Chewbacca was a veteran of the Clone Wars in which the clone armies of the Republic fought against the droid forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Wookiee was part of the high command and was given the task of protecting Kashyyyk from droid invasion.
